The city's new fire station will be built.
Nine years after Mayor Merle Gorden and Beachwood Fire Chief Patrick Kearns began discussing a new station, and after almost three years of City Council discussing costs and plans, the project was approved Monday night.
Council voted 6-1 in favor of spending $9.7 million to construct the next fire station number two on city-owned property on the northeast corner of Richmond Road and Park East Drive. Before Monday's vote was taken, however, the process leading to construction was termed "flawed" and there were many questions asked about the final price tag.
