An update to a story we've been following for months. Smokey is a comfort dog at Fire Station 5 in Toledo. He's been part of the crew since last year. In that time, he's had to deal with some major medical issues. Thanks to the kindness of a lot of people, he's getting better. To mark his third birthday, they're throwing a "Pawty" this weekend to raise more money for his care.
Smokey's job is to help put people at ease and make them smile. Sterling Rahe is the Public Information Officer for the department and he says Smokey's very good at his job, "He helps by just being here.We often internalize things from the job, it's a coping mechanism. Sometimes we will all sit and talk about a difficult run, and by him just being there for us it makes the tough times a lot easier."
