In just a few days, nine new firefighters will start working in the city of Warren. The group was hired through a SAFER federal grant and a new city income tax. Mayor Doug Franklin said this is the biggest group of firefighters they’ve sworn in in the last 15 years. He said they will work to keep the firefighters on even after the federal money runs out. “We are doing some internal measures and trying to be as cost effective as we can so there is life after the SAFER grant,” Franklin said. Brock Trimmer has been a part-time firefighter for three years. After today’s ceremony, he’s full time. He doesn’t do it for the money but says it’s more of a commitment to family.
