Debate over abolishing the state commission responsible for licensing manufactured homes moved into the Ohio Senate Thursday with trade and residential associations lobbying to keep the agency, even with half the budget it previously had. Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s original proposed budget folded the Ohio Manufactured Homes Commission into the Ohio Department of Commerce. Some firefighting and public health groups backed the initiative raising concerns about fire fatality rate of mobile homes and water system problems at mobile home parks, and the law requiring commission members to be vetted by an industry trade group.
