A new Fire Department substation should be under construction next year in the north end of town.
“We intend to bid it out in February, barring the unforeseen,” Fire Chief Russell Volkert said.
The exact dates for construction and occupancy are unknown.
“It will depend on whoever the successful bidder is and what their workload is,” Volkert said. “It would be safe to say we are hoping to start in early spring and be in by late fall.
City Council is expected to appropriate $1.3 million in capital funds for the station in early 2018. The funds have been set aside over several years, Volkert said.
Money to build an ambulance bay and emergency medical service equipment storage room will come from the ambulance fund, fed by revenue collected for that service.
