Putting into action a plan promised with last year's operating levy, the promotion of three firefighters puts in place a management structure that Fairfield Fire Chief Don Bennett says will improve his department and the services it provides to the public. “It means a great deal for the fire department to add management staff so that we can adequately operate this fire department and enhance the service to our people," Bennett said. Lt. Tom Wagner, a 24-year firefighter, and Capt. Randy McCreadie, a 23-year firefighter, were promoted to deputy chiefs. Lt. Jamie Ruhl, who has 25 years of firefighting service, was promoted to captain. All three were among the first nine full-time firefighter/paramedics the city hired in 1999. “The chief’s been doing it by himself … It’s Tom and my role to help him in the day-to-day operations," McCreadie said.
