A West Chester firefighter is ready to get back to the firehouse after a workplace injury has him off-duty. Lt. David Eberhard seriously injured his right shoulder when responding to a fire in September. On Friday, Eberhard was at a West Chester gas station on Tylersville Road near Kingsgate Way when he got an alert on his smartphone. The Active 911 app sends first responders dispatch information directly to their smartphones, even if they are off-duty. "We've been utilizing new technology where the runs come to our phones. I had it turned on that day; usually I don't. For some reason, I turned it on when I woke up," Eberhard said. When he got the alert for an 11-month-old not breathing at 7309 Kingsgate Way, he knew he was close.
