Former Ellsworth Fire Chief, Robert Sternburg, was honored on Wednesday for serving the Ellsworth community for nearly 45 years as a firefighter.
Ellsworth awarded Sternburg the title of Chief Emeritus, which means he will still be remembered as a successful leader.
"I was taken aback, I was not expecting it, and it was an honor and a privilege to do so, to get the award, it was just as much of an honor to serve this community for 16 years as Fire Chief," said Sternburg.
Sternburg followed in his father's footsteps by becoming Fire Chief. He also retired the radio number he shared with his father so that it cant' be used for any other firefighter in the future.
Ellsworth also appointed Ted Smith as its new Fire Chief on Wednesday.
