The Plain Township Fire Department is asking anyone who has information about a hit-skip accident that involved one of its fire engines to contact the New Albany Police Department. The accident occurred at 10:20 a.m. Dec. 13 at Johnstown Road and Walton Parkway, said Assistant Chief Jack Rupp, when Engine 121 was stopped and hit from behind by another vehicle. Firefighters in the truck didn’t realize it had been hit until a man who witnessed the accident followed the truck back to the fire station at 9500 Johnstown Road and notified them of the accident, Rupp said. The man said he was unable to get a license-plate number for the vehicle, which he described as a medium-sized Ford car driven by a male, Rupp said. Although the accident damaged the aluminum step that firefighters use to access the back of the truck, the department was able to repair the truck at no cost, Rupp said. The fire department filed a police report with New Albany police, Rupp said.
