A man was severely injured when he fell at least 40 feet near Devil's Kitchen at Mt. Pleasant in Rising Park Wednesday and crashed into a tree. Police identified him as Shane Caudill, 40, of 5863 Parliament Drive in Columbus. Fire Captain K. J. Watts said Caudill was transported to Fairfield Medical Center in critical condition with no feeling below the waist. Air rescue was not flying because of the weather, which Watts said was why Caudill was going to FMC instead of a Columbus trauma center. Caudill was later transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus but had not been evaluated by press time. The accident occurred at about 10:45 a.m. and medical crews removed him from the mountain around 11:50 a.m. Caudill could be heard screaming several times during the rescue.
