A Bowling Green firefighter is being credited with stopping a man who reportedly attempted to kill himself by jumping from the Interstate 75 overpass at East Wooster Street on Saturday night.
"In situations like that ... you're a firefighter, I don't think you're ever off duty," said Fire Chief Bill Moorman on Tuesday of the actions of Firefighter Steven Tyda.
"You see a situation and you react to it."
According to a Bowling Green police report, officers were dispatched to the overpass just after 11 p.m. on the report of a male attempting to jump.
Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle stopped facing westbound, and a male, later identified as Tyda, on top of another man in front of the vehicle.
