The State Fire Marshal has been called to help investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed a garage and damaged a home in Riverside Monday. Riverside Fire Chief Daniel Stitzel said when crews responded to Lynnhaven Drive around 4:30 p.m., the garage was fully involved just a few feet from the residence, and the flames had started to spread to the house. A bedroom on the second floor of the home and the attic space were damaged by the fire, but Chief Stitzel said between 80 and 85 percent of the house was undamaged by the actual flames. There was smoke and heat damage throughout the house, and another residence nearby had some vinyl siding melt due to the heat. Extra crews were called to the scene, including a rehab unit from Wright-Patt to help with the knockdown and allow them to rotate out crews so no one got overheated.
