Madison Fire Department suffers rocky reopening

The Madison Township Fire Department, closed three years ago in a controversy that divided the community, partially re-opened on July 3, but not as smoothly as its leaders would have liked. The department now responds to fire and rescue calls but will not respond to medical emergencies until it receives a pharmaceutical license, probably in August. The department initially announced a 2 p.m. July 1 re-opening, but the Licking County 911 Center needed more time and information, and the department did not open until July 3. Madison Township Trustee Rick Houston said the two-day delay was due to "just a lot of miscommunication and not enough information. And, everybody was out of town. I have all the confidence in the world everything will be fine or I wouldn't have voted to re-open it."
