Tuesday night, Perry Township trustees select a new fire chief, following former chief Rick Phillips resignation, after a two-month-long investigation by the trustees.
Phillips' resignation was effective as of Friday, after he voluntarily submitted his resignation the previous week, ending the investigation. The Township Trustees had been investigating since March to see if any disciplinary action was needed to be taken against Phillips. The trustees are still not releasing details on what prompted the investigation. After returning from executive session, the trustees announced interim Chief Justin Roberts to be the new Perry Fire Chief.
"What I want to continue to do is provide the best service to the residents of Perry Township, and that's pretty much what I'm after," said new Chief Roberts. "Such as some budgetary things, I want to minimize the budget while maximizing the output for the community. It was a massive learning curve going from working shift to an administrative position. With the help of the trustees and the community, I think we're going to be just fine."
