An event at Sinclair Community College Friday sadly turned out to be timely with the deadly school shooting in Texas. The two first paramedics on scene at the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando spoke at an EMS symposium hosted by Premier Health. They said this was the second time they've had a speaking event the day of a mass shooting. Joshua Granada and Carlos Tavarez had trained for active shooter situations for years. But that kind of scene became a reality for them one night two years ago. "We were just by happenstance happened to be blocks away when it all started," Granada said. Granada and Tavarez were the first two paramedics on scene after a gunman entered the Pulse nightclub in Orlando and started shooting, killing 49 people and wounding 53. They said once they arrived on scene, they immediately started treating patients.
