Funeral arrangements are set for a Carroll Township Firefighter who died while responding to a call.
Daniel Lucius, 33, died early Friday morning. According to the Ottawa County Sheriff, he was responding to a fire call when he lost control of his vehicle and went off the road into a pond.
A deputy tried to rescue him from the water but due to the water temperatures, the deputy became incapacitated was unable to continue his search.
Lucius was appointed to the Carroll Township EMS & Fire Department in June of 2017.
The Carroll Township EMS and Fire department released the following statement:
"Dan served our community admirably for just over 1 year and 5 months, and will be greatly missed. Dan was certified as a Volunteer Firefighter in the State of Ohio, and had plans to continue his training in the future. He is remembered fondly as always willing to learn and to do." A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Saturday, November 24, 2018 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, 215 N. Church St., Oak Harbor, OH. A Fireman's service will be conducted immediately following the Mass, in the church. Burial will then be in the Salem Township Union Cemetery in Oak Harbor. The Carroll Township Fire & EMS will conduct the final call service at the cemetery.
