Union Township trustees have voted to begin discussions to form a fire district with Hebron pending a study on the benefits and costs to residents.
Granville Township, however, does not appear to be interested in joining the partnership.
According to Hebron Fire Chief Clifford Mason, former mayor of Hebron, the discussion of forming a fire district between the two entities has been ongoing for the last 30 years.
"There was a time years ago where other communities were invited to participate," Mason told the Advocate during an interview. "And for whatever reason, every single time after much discussion, much review, investigation - whatever term you want to apply - they just kind of dropped and nothing ever happened."
Now, discussions have resumed between the two. In early October, Union Township Trustee Charlie Prince said the Board of Trustees voted to draft a joint resolution, which would say the board will endeavor to form a fire district in 2019, which would be operational by Jan. 1, 2020.
