William Henry had just finished trimming the grass at a house he's rehabilitating on Richland Road Tuesday afternoon when he saw smoke coming from a neighbor's house.
Then he saw flames.
Henry said he tried to knock on the doors of other neighbors to get them to call 911, but no one was home. Then he ran to the house were he saw the flames.
"It was contained right there in one spot on the deck," Henry said of the fire. "It looked like I could put it out."
Henry said when he grabbed a hose attached to the house no water would come out because the house uses a personal well and the fire had already knocked out the electric service to the house.
He said he was able to get a propane grill and it's tank off the deck before firefighters arrived, causing a minor burn to his hand in the process and singed his t-shirt.
When another neighbor arrived to help, Henry checked to make sure no one was home.
