Two local fire departments will receive federal grants to help pay for training and equipment.
The city of Sheffield Lake will receive $64,762 and the North Ridgeville Fire Department will receive $25,000 in Assistance to Firefighters Grants.
The money comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. Sen.
Sherrod Brown announced the grants Sept. 18. The Assistance to Firefighters Grants program supports fire departments across the country to ensure the safety of both first-responders and the public, according to a summary from Brown’s office.
The program provides funds for supplemental training, upgrades to protective equipment, facility modifications and other supplies that protect firefighters and first-responders in moments of crisis.
