Voters in Streetsboro will see a 0.8-mill levy on the ballot in May that would fund construction of a new fire station.
Mayor Glenn Broska said the goal is to have site work and construction cost no more than $5 million. A preliminary floor plan for the building was sent to an estimator and Broska said he anticipates pricing for the facility to be available within the next 30 to 45 days.
Broska emphasized Monday that the building will not be ornate and that minor adjustments to the size of the station can be made to fit the proposed budget. Broska, a former firefighter, said the new building will suit the needs of Streetsboro for another 25 years. Though, he said, the need for an additional, smaller station may arise as the city expands.
Councilwoman Julie Field expressed concern that adhering too strictly to a budget may prevent the proposed building from accommodating future growth of the city.
