Crews in Parma were busy battling a fire at a house on Velma Drive on Thursday evening. Parma fire officials say the resident of the house was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center due to smoke inhalation. There is no word on the condition of the victim. The fire apparently had extended into the second floor of the house by the time first responders arrived. The fire caused traffic issues in Parma, according to police. Ridge Road between Brookpark and Luelda was closed for about 30 minutes, but as of 9:20 p.m., the area had been reopened to traffic. The Parma Fire Prevention and Investigation Unit is working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
