The Granville Township Fire Department has a new two-year contract to continue to provide fire and emergency services to a portion of Union Township. However, Granville officials believe the contract will only remain in effect for its first year, already underway. At the first and organizational Granville Township Trustee meeting, held Jan. 9, Granville Fire Chief Casey Curtis updated trustees on the status of recent contract negotiations which have sparked public outcry from some residents living in the affected portion of Union Township and who fear eventually losing Granville services. According to township officials, the new contract is for two-years, but can be severed with 90 days’ written notice. The earliest option for Union Township to do that, Curtis said, is Oct. 2. Based on his observations of ongoing discussions and comments made by officials, Curtis told trustees they should probably expect to receive that notification from Union Township ending the agreement later this year.
