A 14-year-old boy died following a house fire Monday afternoon in Plain Township. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the fire, received a 911 call at 3:38 p.m. about the fire at 1133 29th St. NE. The teen was removed from the residence by Plain Township firefighters and taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he died from his injuries. The boy’s name has not been released. “When the crew got on the scene, they had a fire in the front living room,” Fire Chief Charles Shalenberger told the Canton Repository. “They started attacking the fire, and at the same time we have a search crew that goes looking for the victim. He was discovered in his bedroom. Someone alerted us that he was in the home.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
