An elderly woman was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday night after Columbus firefighters rescued her from a house fire, and her husband was treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters, medics and police were dispatched to the couple’s home in the 1700 block of Alpine Drive on the Northeast Side about 9:15 p.m., police said. The one-story ranch is north of East Dublin-Granville Road (Route 161) and west of Sharon Woods Boulevard.
Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin said the woman was rescued from a bedroom and taken unconscious and in critical condition to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center.
Her husband had managed to get out of the house and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, Martin said.
Property and other records identify the couple as James Crook, 76, and his wife, Karolyn, whose age was not immediately available.
