A Junction City man is being held in the Lane County Jail, accused of intentionally starting a fire in his ex-girlfriend’s garage last week. Matthew Lynn Guthrie, 41, was arraigned Tuesday in Lane County Circuit Court on a first-degree arson charge. Junction City police said they suspect Guthrie is the person who set a fire at his former girlfriend’s home in the 900 block of Elm Street on Friday. Police arrested Guthrie on Sunday after he allegedly knocked a man to the floor at a convenience store. In addition to the arson charge, Guthrie faces misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree assault, second-degree disorderly conduct, harassment and resisting arrest. Guthrie is expected to return to court next week after a grand jury reviews the arson case.
