Klamath County Fire District 1 Battalion Chief Scott Brainard is retiring from the district to accept a job at a fire department in Alaska.
Brainard, 53, has served locally as a firefighter since 1983 when he began as a volunteer with the Keno Fire Department. Since then he served with the US Forest Service and the Ashland Fire Department prior to joining the Klamath Falls Fire Department in 1989. The city department then merged with District 1 where Brainard has served for the last 26 years. He was promoted to battalion chief in 2012.
“I’ve enjoyed raising our family here and it’s a great place to be,” he said of Klamath Falls. “We have very good people in our community.” Brainard said he has enjoyed not only serving his district but also helping other local fire agencies throughout the years.
He is leaving to serve as assistant fire chief for the Ketchikan Fire Department in Ketchikan, Alaska. His last official day is Tuesday, Nov. 30.
Brainard’s wife, Stacy Brainard, is currently serving as assistant to the fire chief for District 1 and said she will be vacating per position as well.
