A Fred Meyer employee got her arm stuck in a floor drain and had to call 911 for help Saturday. The woman was trying to fish a broom handle out of the drain when she got stuck, down to her armpit. She tried for 20 minutes to free herself and then called for help after realizing she just couldn’t get out on her own, according to Gert Zoutendijk with Newberg Fire. Newberg firefighters responded and tried using oil and soap to slide her arm out, but that didn’t work, either. So they called used in a technical rescue team from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue for help. The rescue team used concrete drills and jack hammers to finally break the concrete around the drain and get the woman’s arm out. “With the woman being stuck 20 minutes before the 911 call was made at 4:47 PM, she was entrapped for over two hours,” Zoutendijk said. “The female was transported to OHSU as a precautionary measure in stable condition to check out her arm for injuries.” Authorities said the victim was a 24-year-old woman named Lonnie. The Fred Meyer store where the incident occurred is located at 3300 Portland Road.
