Fire crews are investigating the cause of a fire at a storage unit in Springfield. The fire was at Northwest Self Storage on Olympic Street but drivers on Highway 126 reported being only a few feet away from the smoke. Firefighters said it started in one unit and six other units had to be cleared out to keep it from spreading. They said their effort was delayed because they were originally given an incorrect address. it appeared the fire had been burning for quite a while, maybe as early as seven o'clock," Battalion Chief Lance Lighty. "By the time we could get crews in there, we had fire starting to go through the roof." Lighty also said three ladder trucks and six engines responded to the fire. "We ended up having to back out, regrouping and opening up and making a plan to catch the fire in the next couple of units." Lighty said.
