Fire crews and EMS personnel in Douglas County are receiving top honors for their service during the shooting at Umpqua Community College last year. Douglas County Fire District No. 2 is getting recognized for going above the normal everyday requirements to serve their community. Fire District No. 2 is receiving the Outstanding Special District Service Award for the actions and professionalism they provided to the Roseburg community during the shooting and for their service in the days that followed. Fire Chief Greg Marlar says he nominated his entire organization for the award, because of the life-saving work his crew did that day. The Special Districts Association of Oregon will honor them at their 2016 annual conference in Sunriver Saturday. Chief Marlar along with a member of their fire line personnel and two members from their EMS personnel will accept the award on behalf of the entire fire district.
