A man's body was recovered from the Long Tom River near Monroe on Wednesday afternoon. Tim Chase, Lane County Search and Rescue coordinator, said the body has been taken to the medical examiner's office for identification. He said it appeared that the body had been in the river for some time. "The body was caught in some weeds that were exposed due to the current low flow of the river," he said. Chase said the call came in at about 11:30 a.m., and the recovery was complete by 2 p.m. Responders were able to recover the body from the shore, and did not have to use a boat. Rick Smith, fire chief for the Monroe Rural Fire Protection District, said a group of farmers at Stroda Brothers Farm were working near the river Wednesday morning when they saw the body and called 911. "We were there if they needed extra manpower," Smith said. The body was found downstream from where a Junction City man went missing in December. Edgar Daran-Velez was last seen leaving work on Dec. 16. His family conducted a search for him and discovered evidence of a car crash on High Pass Road. A few days later his car was pulled from the Long Tom River, but his body was not inside.
