A small device exploded at a Southeast Portland Fred Meyer store Saturday, prompting officials to begin an arson investigation, police said.
Just before noon, police responded to the Foster Fred Meyer, 5253 S.E. 82nd Ave., after an explosion was reported in an aisle where small travel-size items are displayed, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, a Portland Police spokesman. The blast didn't hurt anyone and caused little damage, Simpson said.
The Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit confirmed that a small device caused the explosion. Arson investigators from the police and fire bureaus are leading the inquiry.Â
The store is open, Simpson said, and police don't think the public is in any danger.
