Douglas County Fire District No. 2 was awarded the 2016 EMS Unit Citation medal by the State of Oregon for its service during the shooting at Umpqua Community College last year. The EMS Unit Citation recognizes the acts of organizations for providing emergency prehospital care or EMS system support activities under extreme circumstances. The award was presented to the fire district at the annual Oregon EMS Conference in Bend last week. The award honors individual and department-wide acts that stand out from day-to-day excellence. Fire Chief Greg Marlar and Fire Marshal Ray Shoufler accepted the award of behalf of the fire district and were presented with a medal, certificate and citation bar for each member that responded that day.
