A local firefighter is being recognized for his quick actions in saving his father's life. Over the weekend, members of Oregon's EMS community joined together in Bend for the annual Oregon EMS conference. During the ceremony, Oregon Department of Forestry Public Information Officer and Fire Prevention Specialist Brian Ballou presented an award to his son Ross Ballou. Ross received the Oregon Life Saving Award for performing CPR on his father Brian. Brian went into cardiac arrest and Ross was able to use his emergency training to save his father's life. Ross is a volunteer firefighter and EMT at Jackson County Fire District #5. During the summer, he is also a wildland firefighter at ODF.
