A sheriff's deputy used a fire extinguisher to battle the flames as another deputy pulled an injured man from the burning wreckage of a pickup truck Thursday afternoon. The crash killed the driver and injured his two passengers. Investigators said the pickup towing a trailer full of concrete and construction debris suddenly came upon slow-moving traffic behind a farm combine on the other side of a hill on Stayton Scio Road near Brock Drive around 4:31 p.m. The driver of the 1990 Chevy pickup - Taylor Michael Whitney-Leigh, 26, of Albany - took evasive action to avoid the car ahead of him, investigators said. The pickup skidded off the road and rolled down a hill into a tree.
