The Albany City council tonight will discuss whether to approve a proposal from Millersburg to join the Albany fire protection area.
Citing the rapid recent growth of Millersburg, Mayor Jim Lepin said his city needs to move beyond the shared fire protection coverage it had with the Jefferson and Albany districts. The council there voted in September to sever ties with both Jefferson and Albany districts, with the express goal of building a new fire house and then having it staffed by Albany personnel.
"That's the desire, if the numbers come together," said Lepin.
Those numbers, which Albany Fire Chief John Bradner will present to the council, reflect a rate Millersburg would pay to Albany to the tune of $2 per $1,000 assessed property value.
