Volunteers with Chiloquin Fire and Rescue (CFR) spent Saturday preparing for live fire training at the location of the now-closed Rapids Motel on Highway 97.
Owned by the Klamath Tribes, the building is slated for demolition and was offered to CFR as a place to work on the the skills needed during an emergency response.
The burn is scheduled for April 8 and CFR Chief Mike Cook said he wanted to make sure firefighters had ample practice time beforehand.
“Hotels are always very, very nice because you get a large amount of training,” he said.
Leading up to the burn, Cook said crews have practiced breaching doors, climbing roofs, clearing rooms and even search and rescue at night.
