A recognition and badge ceremony was held on Tuesday for a longtime chief in the Eugene Springfield Fire Department. Fire Chief Joe Zaludek was honored for his more than 30 years of service. He said Eugene Springfield Fire has some of the hardest working firefighters in the country and that it's been a privilege to serve as their chief. "This is a dream come true. Kind of a life long journey after 32 years working through the ranks and learning everything I could learn about the fire service and this department. Having the opportunity to serve in this capacity is just an honor and a privilege and I'm very excited and looking forward to seeing where the organization is going to head in the next months and years," said Chief Zaludek.
