The firefighters union says Eugene is in a crisis with too few ambulances.
After Wednesday night's budget committee meeting, they say they're disappointed that the city isn't solving the problem.
The union president says they're overwhelmed. One station has just one full-time 24-hour ambulance and there are only two others in the city. hey'd like to have at least one more but, per the city's recommendation, that wouldn't be the case.
Officials say there are days that one ambulance responds to 30 calls.
"That is a huge burden,” says Mike Caven, president of Lane Professional Firefighters Association, “and when you've ran that many calls, when you get a critical call in the middle of the night, it's a lot harder to be on top of your game and prepared to deliver the treatment."
