(Photos, Video) A 22-year-old man tumbled at least 1,000 feet down the snow-covered caldera at Crater Lake National Park, coming to a stop about 100 feet from the lake – alive – and was plucked to safety by a rescue helicopter. The man was taking pictures Sunday while standing on snow in Rim Village, the area near the park's historic Crater Lake Lodge, Sgt. Shawn Richards, search and rescue supervisor for the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, said Thursday. He likely crashed into trees and rocks as he tumbled to a stop, Richards said. A video of the eventual rescue shows the man bloodied, dressed in a T-shirt and moving. He was brought to Providence Medford Medical Center.
