Bandon Fire Chief Lanny Boston reported that the ball from the top of the Bandon Rural Fire District’s flagpole has been stolen.
He noticed it Thursday morning, April 12, but said it may have happened within the last few days. The ball has been on the ground since the flagpole was hit by lightning on Feb. 22. Boston said in retrospect, he should have put the ball inside, but didn’t think it was unsafe where it was.
A new flagpole has been ordered, but the Fire District was going to use the ball, which survived the lightning strike without damage, for the new flagpole.
The cost to replace the ball is approximately $500, Boston said.
“We’d like it back,” Boston said. “If someone could bring it back to the Fire Hall, there will be no questions asked, or drop it off when the Fire Hall isn’t open. It would be much appreciated.”
