The owners of 2Hawk Vineyard & Winery made a contribution of $10,080 in grants to local fire districts on Thursday, as a part of their 9-1-1 Fund.
The grants went to Jackson County Fire District #5 (JCFD5) and Applegate Valley Fire District #9 (APFD9).
The 9-1-1 Fund comes from the sale of 2Hawk Vineyards 9-1-1 wine—and more than 50 percent of all proceeds from the wine's sale goes toward building the Fund. The wine was first released on September 27 of 2017 in honor of National First Responders Day.
According to a statement, 2Hawk's owners Jen and Ross Allen came up with the idea for the 9-1-1 Fund when they were looking for a way to show support for their community. Ross has a 17-year background in law enforcement, giving the Allens an appreciation for first responders and leading to the fund's creation.
JCFD5's grant will go toward backcountry and rope rescue equipment, intended to enhance their technical rescue response for wildland firefighters and backcountry rescues.
