Firefighters from Gresham and Clackamas County fought flames bursting from both floors of a large home in rural Multnomah County Wednesday night.
"When they got inside, they started going to the second floor, they had heavy fire conditions," Battalion Chief Jason McGowan said. "[It] got extremely hot, they had to withdraw from the building."
The house on SE Dodge Park Blvd., is at the end of a long private driveway. Crews had to truck in the water and make their own reserve to pump onto the fire.
"The lack of water that was on scene definitely made it more challenging for our crews," McGowan said. "We are used to working in the city, where you have the hydrant on every block or half a block. It makes it a lot easier than when you have no water supply."
