As we transition into the cold winter months, chimney fires in residences become more common. Jackson County Fire District Three spent Monday in White City training for chimney fires, also known as flue fires, to better prepare for their calls of service.
Due to the holidays and the winter season, common uses of heat, including cooking appliances and space heaters, pose a great risk for fire safety.
Public information officer Ashley Blakely said the department has responded about seven flue fires this year.
“We have a tendency to have at least a couple every year," Blakely said. "I think it’s just a good reminder to make sure they are being maintained by a professional."
