Douglas County Fire District No. 2 held its board meeting Tuesday night to talk about updates on its budgeting process and discuss potential cost-cutting measures and barriers. Fire Chief Rob Bullock said the district’s five-year contract with the Winston-Dillard Fire District expires out in December. Bullock brought up conversations the two departments are having about merging — something that’s been talked about for several years. The WDFD president and one board member agreed to meet with members of DCFD2’s board to begin talks about the potential merger, Bullock said. Bullock also debated the possibility of adding an air ambulance to the fire department’s existing FireMed program, with one glaring issue. Bullock said there’s no reciprocity among the three air ambulance companies that serve the area. That would mean a company like REACH Air Medical Services wouldn’t honor a contract that the fire department signed with a company like Life Flight Air Ambulances and vice versa.
