The town of Malin may be without a complete fire department for awhile, if a dispute between the Malin Rural Fire Protection District and a group of eight volunteer firefighters is not resolved.
Comprising approximately three-quarters of the entire volunteer fire department force, the collective of firefighters chose to resign last Thursday at the monthly Malin Rural Fire Protection District board meeting, citing numerous complaints against Fire Chief Virgil Jochim that have not been addressed.
Several of the departed firefighters addressed Malin City Council at its regularly scheduled public meeting Tuesday evening, explaining why they chose to resign, the potential ramifications if a resolution is not found soon, and steps being taken to remedy the situation.
