Fire crews are mopping up and monitoring the remnants of a fire that briefly tore through the Bear Creek Greenway in Medford. Smoke from the fire became visible rising over businesses along Biddle Road before 1 p.m. on Monday. Soon fire crews arrived on the scene from multiple angles. Chief Brian Fish said that crews positioned themselves along I-5, on the Bear Creek bike-path, and in the back lots of Biddle Road businesses in order to attack the fire. It took about 45 minutes for firefighters to get the grass fire under relative control. The cause and extent of the fire are still under assessment by fire investigators, but Chief Fish said that they estimated it covered about 10 acres—although it is difficult to estimate due to the narrow stretch of land that the fire burned along.
