A January fire that badly damaged a commercial building in Southwest Portland was caused by electrical failure, authorities say.
Portland Fire & Rescue announced on Monday the cause of the four-alarm blaze, which ignited in the Macadam Center on Jan. 28. An agency spokeswoman previously said no one was injured in the fire.
There were a few people inside when the fire started, and an alarm alerted them they needed to leave. Those people initially reported there was a lot of smoke coming from an elevator shaft.
"The property has been turned back over to the property owners and their insurance representatives for several weeks now," Portland Fire & Rescue said in a news release Monday.
