Portland Fire & Rescue showed up at the home near Southeast 97th and Knight Street.
Nobody was home but there were pets inside.
A neighbor told KATU firefighters pulled several cats out of the burning home.
"They brought them out, resuscitated three of them. One of them ran off and is here in the neighborhood. They got one in a trashcan. The fireman had it, and it freaked out, so they put it in the trashcan," said Gary Frogge. "He's got his animals, and I hope he has fire insurance."
One cat was carried away by animal control.
