Oregon Strike Team 19 stops for a picture during a break in waiting for visibility to improve before continuing work on their assignment of improving a containment line on the camp fire. Seaside and Gearhart firefighters joined a Columbia County strike team and on Nov. 9 to fight the fast-moving Camp Fire near Chico, California.
As of Thursday, the fire had burned 140,000 acres and was considered 40 percent contained.
The fire started Nov. 8, near the northern California city of Paradise. After a request from California officials and Oregon Emergency Management, county strike teams headed south as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a national state-to-state mutual aid system.
Seaside sent four firefighters along with two apparatus to assist with the 15 strike teams activated.
