Curry County Sheriff John Ward announced Wednesday afternoon that evacuation levels from the north side of 33 Road (Agness Road) from Spud Road to Coon Rock Bridge will be reduced from Level 3 — GO! To Level 2, Get Set.
“This change only affects the residences and businesses on the north side of 33 Road, including Agness RV Park and Cougar Lane Lodge,” Ward said in an announcement Wednesday. “All other areas remain the same.”
Ward said Tuesday during a community fire meeting in Gold Beach that he hoped to reduce the evacuation notices, particularly since once residents in the Level 3 area left their home, they were not permitted back in.
He attributed the evacuation order reduction to fire behavior and firefighting efforts. High winds that kicked up Saturday night and reignited the Klondike Fire have died down, and the mass influx of firefighters and equipment from 33 agencies throughout the state have boosted fire-fighting efforts.
